What an Indonesian employee costs the employer
Enter a gross salary and see the statutory cost on top of it: BPJS Kesehatan, JHT, JP, JKK, JKM, and the THR accrual. This is the same contribution engine that runs client payroll, and it is the part of the cost most providers hide inside a single rate.
Enter a salary to see what it costs the employer each month in Indonesia.
- Statutory employer contributions: BPJS Kesehatan, JHT, JP, JKK, JKM
- THR accrual, the holiday bonus Indonesian law requires
- Total monthly and annual cost, before our service fee
The contributions, line by line
| Contribution | Rate | Note |
|---|---|---|
| BPJS Kesehatan (health) | 4% | Wage floor is the local minimum wage, ceiling Rp12,000,000 |
| JHT (old-age savings) | 3.7% | On the full wage |
| JP (pension) | 2% | Capped; the cap changes every March |
| JKK (work accident) | 0.24% to 1.74% | Set by the risk class of your business |
| JKM (death benefit) | 0.3% | Flat |
| THR (holiday bonus) | 1/12 of salary per month | One month per year, accrued monthly |
Why the caps matter
Two ceilings shape the answer. Health insurance is calculated on a wage base capped at Rp12,000,000, so above that salary the health contribution stops growing. Pension contributions are capped at a figure the government revises every March, currently 11.086.300. Old age savings (JHT) has no cap, so it keeps rising with salary. That is why a salary of Rp40 million does not cost exactly double a salary of Rp20 million.
What this estimator deliberately leaves out
Variable pay such as bonuses and commissions, overtime, and our own service fee. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for the first hour and 2 times afterwards, where the hourly rate is the monthly wage divided by 173. If your team is likely to work overtime regularly, say so and we will model it.
From estimate to a real number
The estimator gives you the statutory cost. Your actual monthly invoice is that, plus our fee, with every line itemised so your finance team can reconcile it. If you would rather skip the arithmetic, send us the role and the salary range and we will send a costed quote: see how pricing works, or email halo@bayarkerja.com.
Questions
Why is the employer cost higher than the salary?
Indonesian law requires the employer to pay social insurance on top of the salary: health insurance, old age savings, pension, work accident and death cover. Employers must also pay THR, a holiday bonus of one month of salary per year. Both are statutory, not optional.
Is THR paid monthly?
No. THR is paid before the religious holiday, but it accrues throughout the year, so the honest way to budget it is one twelfth of salary per month. That is what this estimator shows.
What is not included here?
Our service fee, which is quoted per employee per month. Also excluded: variable pay such as bonuses and commissions, overtime, and any salary above the BPJS caps, where the contribution base stops growing.
Does the employee pay anything?
Yes. The employee contributes 2% to JHT, 1% to JP and 1% to health insurance, deducted from salary. Income tax is withheld on top of that using the monthly effective rate tables.
